A pure SIMS special this is. Now we 60 of us from the champion batch (by which I mean section C) of SIMS 08-10, were given the Mad Task of hitting the busy roads of Deccan or Aundh/baner (Pune), and find us a job for the day. An addition to this was that we’r not to spend a single rupee the entire day. So basically, we hitch-hike ourselves to the market, go from shop to shop, and ask them for a job for the day.
So 9.30am, my partner and I (as we were all to stay in couples) started the day by sticking our thumbs out to every four-wheeler passing by. Full Credit goes to my beautiful and charming partner Ms. Ann Louis that we managed to get ourselves a ride right upto aundh real soon. This heavy-set, grumpy man let us into his Tavera who for a second made us think that he’d actually charge us for the ride.
So then we began, our first target being Pizza Hut, Aundh. Money was already flashing in front of our eyes. The pile of tips increasing with every customer. Even The manager seemed really sweet and for a second we thought that we were so lucky that we would get our jobs in the first try. Oh man!!we were so wrong!! After we told him our story, he started talking about stuff like “ Sir, it is against the company policy to hire only for a single day” and all that jazz!! Off we went to our next target which was Crossword. At some point I believed that my knowledge of books coupled with my charming smile would certainly get us a job there. We were wrong again and so this continued till we realised that ran out of shops in the area. The disappointment was too much for us and we realised we had to change our entire strategy. By strategy I mean our location. The shop owners here seemed just so disinterested. So we hitchhiked our way to deccan then. After a couple of tries we struck gold.
Ms. Ann Louis and I finally charmed our way to getting a job at Docker’s, Junglee Maharaj Road. Our job entailed, mainly direct selling, and Telemarketing. We somehow convinced our manager Mr. Hashim to pay us Rs. 150 per head at the end of four hours which meant we had to be on our feet for four hours straight convincing people to buy shirts, trousers etc. and ofcourse inform them of all the schemes offered by Dockers. My first task was to make sure that every nook n corner of the showroom remained free of dust. So there I was ordering the housekeeping guy around to clean above the cupboards and below the racks. I was even arranging all the stacks of shirts and making sure every garment had a tag attached to it.
